Mapping Downtown Brooklyn’s Building Boom

Downtown Brooklyn Development Map

We were having trouble wrapping our heads around all the development proposed (and already happening) in Downtown Brooklyn, so we decided to try to map it. Once all these buildings were on the map we were actually pretty surprised by the number and concentration of new projects going up–these are mostly condos, needless to say, but also include new commercial buildings, and a couple hotels. That whole rezoning thing really is pretty powerful. We threw in a couple familiar landmarks and restaurants as reference points.

Check out the full map, which includes photos or renderings for most sites–click on the pins for pretty pictures. Discuss in the forums or let us know if we’ve missed one (or many).

That’s right, a whale. See local breaking coverage from Gowanus Lounge, and an informative followup.

4/19 Update: A sad end to the tale, RIP Sludgie the whale.

The Steelworkers of 110

These photos are from heavy construction specialists the Francis A. Lee Company. They have done steel restoration work on the George Washington Bridge, and they built the new steel framing for the added floors at 110. In all they added 800 tons of steel to our building — but the pictures are more impressive than the number (click for high res).
